On the 9th of August I had a very long chat with my friend and host Puleng just before my talk. As two relatively intelligent women we touched on a variety of issues from politics, socio-economic matters and of course men and relationships. Puleng has been married for well over 20 years, she is one of those couples that met at a very young age dated and married. Her marriage is healthy and quite happy in her own words, she didnt even have to tell me that, she looks and sounds happy all the time. She has a lightness about her that can only come from a true sense of well being. I am very happy for her. She mentioned something that was new to me, she mentioned that there is a new stigma rising against happily married women or rather happily married people. Meaning that its almost like the happily married women cant talk about how happy and comfortable their marriage is without getting suspicious looks from the others. When other women talk about how tough it is and she is quiet, its seems abnormal. She says it seems that if you have been married that long you must be staying for convenience or the kids of financial stability or whatever. But you certainly cant be staying there because you love your husband and have few but non fundamental problems. I personally am not crazy about marriage in its current form as most of you know, but I love and am crazy about healthy, genuine, full of love, laughter, care and lots of love making type of relationships. My heart smiles when I hear of such relationships whether its a marriage or life partnership or mojolo.
