On the Assignment @ 19:15 DPP: Should he Stay or Leave? More than two months since the immunity from prosecution of Zambia’s fourth president Rupiah Banda was lifted and the subsequent commencement of trial on allegations of abuse of office, the country’s Director of Public Prosecutions Mutembo Nchito has continued to come under intense pressure to resign his position. Last Friday, The DDP came under fire after former President; Rupiah Banda asked the latter to recuse (Step aside) himself from prosecuting his cases involving the former Head of State. This was after Banda was stopped at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport from travelling to South Africa for an International engagement. Lawmaker Lucky Mulusa, who chaired the Parliamentary Select Committee that ratified Mr. Nchito’s appointment, has also called on the DPP to resign on allegations of professional misconduct.
