On the Campus Special Event Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Center for Japanese Studies Japanese Language and Exchange Students – Connecting Past, Present & Future – Distinguished Lecture Series January 9, 2015 Professor Kumiko Sakoda Director Center for JSL Research and Information National Institute for Japanese Language and Linguistics We really appreciate Sakoda-sensei for coming to Nanzan to give us a fantastic lecture concerning the past, present and future of research of Japanese language learners. She lectured what Japanese language teachers and instructors should learn from research on language learners. Sakoda-sensei also talked about learners’ spoken corpus of Japanese and developmental sequence of verbs, which was very technical and very interesting. In light of the wide range of current issues surrounding the teaching and learning of Japanese as a foreign language, Sakoda-sensei is disseminating non-native speakers communicative abilities in Japanese. Everyone who attended was truly inspired by her message and discussions have continued.
