On the DCC question at the debate last night: I wish their was open feedback. Fox kept insisting the DCC fees pay for schools and bragging about the increase to the DCC fees last year (an increase which SD35 put in motion - not Council - SD35 2-2001a). TRUTH is in the entire story - the current DCC fees are only for Capital land purchases, and only sized as such; DCC fees do NOT cover the 50% of the building(Province pays other 50%). The DCC fee (SD35 portion) would need to go up another 300% to pay for schools based on true child per permit ratios. Further, and I could be wrong here, but I think because the Province ends up owning the schools, the DCC fees probably cannot cover the costs of school buildings, and therefore a CAC fee would be needed. Fox kept saying its very complicated the the crowd was dumb...OK Charlie...Ive been CEO of a multi-million dollar technology/engineering firm... speak slowly maybe I can understand :) PROOF is in the results - if DCC fees pay for schools and main roads and events centers - WHERE ARE THE SCHOOLS WE NEED? WHERE IS THE SECRET BANK ACCOUNT WITH THE DCC MONEY IN IT? We need two more schools right NOW, they are proud they built 3/5 of the schools needed...I dont get that...its a fail they are proud of? Fact is.....DCC fees dont pay for it all...even LEC costs us taxpayers about $9M a year in CAPITAL costs right now... Fox tells part of the story - but the truth is in the entire story.
