On the eve of my 53rd birthday, I lay here sick and on-site with a customer. For those of you who know me, my business is in Emergency Services and Critical Information Management Systems. On September 11, 2001, I was still very much Active Duty Air Force, at that point it had been a little over ten years since I was involved with Desert Shield/Desert Storm. I was 2 years away from retirement and had just been married to my beautiful wife since May. I was the Facility Manager for the building we were housed in for work and was walking upstairs from my office when I was told to lock the building down, black out the windows and increase the threat condition, my military training put me in gear and I did that without question, once the building was locked down, I was then able to catch a glimpse of the news and like every other citizen of our country was stunned at what I was witnessing. I have tried several times to start a book about Sept 11, 2001 and focus it on the effects of those of us who share this frightful day but just cant bring myself to work on it, maybe out of laziness, maybe out of fear or maybe out of anger, I dont know. What I do know is 13 years ago, our country was changed as equally and devistatingly as December 7, 1941, but it was on MY BIRTHDAY. We face terrorism today much more deadly and focused than it was 13 years ago. While I believe this act will never be forgotten, my concern is the complacency of our government and our peoples. We are funding the very terrorist who want us obliterated. Please, Please recognize the evil in this world, dont be complacent and never forget what happened on this day 13 years ago. I will continue to fight today so my children and grandchildren dont have to fight tomorrow.
