On the eve of the New Year I took the painful decision to resign - TopicsExpress

On the eve of the New Year I took the painful decision to resign from the Board of Trustees of the Parliament of World Religions. It was painful because I made some wonderful friends and hope to cherish them till the end of my life. The reason for the decision is because I felt so grossly inadequate in representing Hinduism while I consider myself to be a Universalist in the broader sense. My grandfather distinguished between religion and spiritualism. Religion, he said, was the practice of rituals, often mindless and insincere. Spiritualism is reaching the higher plane where one accepts all religions of the world as paths to the same light. Where one learns to love, respect, understand and appreciate all the different forms of worship. So, my dilemma has been to learn as a Board member to think narrowly as a Hindu and yet practice the all-encompassing Universalist ideals. I am too ignorant to be able to bring these two opposites into one narrow perspective. Am I right? Or am I silly?
