On the front page of yesterdays Citizen Tribune newspaper, County: No New Requests from charities. Essentially, the county is no longer accepting requests for county funding from charities. Granted, there are some charities, such as the library, that the county SHOULD give money to. However, I personally feel that other charities, like ours, shouldnt really ask for money from the county. Our charity is based in Whitesburg. We serve the people of Whitesburg. Were a group of hard-working people who know the value of a dollar. If we need something, we work for it. If we see someone in need, we try our best to help them out with whatever we can. Its not right to ask people from the other end of the county to pay taxes to the county and then the county give us part of that money since it wont directly benefit people outside of the Whitesburg Community. So, as long as you guys let me try to head this organization up, I will NOT ask for outside help from Hamblen County. People have to pay more than their fair share of taxes as it is. If we need something, well ask you guys here in the Community to help us find it or get it. Well work for whatever we need. Theres nothing wrong with asking for charity if you really need the help, but a little hard work from each of us will go a long way in being a better example in our Community, our county, and our area.
