On the meaning of Amen. Generally it is translated as “so be it”. But it is more than that. Amen, in Hebrew has the same root as the word EMUNAH. Aleph-Mem-Nun are the roots of both words. Emunah has a Heh at the end. In Hebrew it is spelled Aleph-Mem-Nun-Heh. Amen is Aleph-Mem-Nun. The spelling is practically identical. Emunah means fath. Thus when one utters Amen at the end of a prayer he is really saying “I believe” - “I have faith”. I believe that the prayer I have uttered is real and true and will come to pass. It is not “I hope this happens or I wish this happens” but I believe this will happen. The word Emmanuel is generally translated as “God is with us”. But if we analyze the letters of the word - Aleph-Mem-Nun-Heh with El at the end, it means literally “faith in god”. Emunah is faith. El is God (a particular aspect of God). The Egyptian god Amen-Ra, can also be understood in this way. Faith in Ra - the Sun God.
