On this Fathers Day weekend Im thankful to be the father to my four beautiful girls, each of whom Im so proud of. Like all dads, Ive loved them from the day I laid eyes on them. The greatest joy of my life is to care and provide for my children. In fact, this is a father’s main responsibility. Just this week the girls told me they were proud of me for entering public service - it warmed my heart. Im also thankful for a wonderful dad that taught me the value and dignity of hard work. As an electrician, he put on work boots every day and worked with his hands. Years spent seeing him do this, and my own years spent doing the same thing each summer in high school and college, connected me to silent strength of those Americans that work with their hands each day. My two grandfathers were cut from the same cloth. One immigrated from England as a young man and only had one arm - he worked his entire life in a pencil factory in Jersey City. The other - who was Irish - worked as a ship builder in the docks of Jersey City. My dad, my grandfathers, and men like them are the tough soldiers of Americas economy - they built everything. We honor them by creating more opportunities for all working Americans - my passion in Congress. This weekend I want to wish my father and all Dads a Happy Fathers Day, particularly those who toil at a job they dont like to earn a living and support their families - they are my heroes. - John
