Falling into the Sky (Lower Antelope Canyon, Arizona) Every time when youre visiting the Upper or the Lower Antelope Canyons you will expect some crowds and most of the time you can feel or think that everybody there is just there to see the famous light beams. So for me it took a couple of years since my first visit and 4 or 5 visits total to start to really enjoy those slot canyons. If after my first visit in 2011 I took about 500 shots, than in 2014 literally I took just 10-15 and finally produced 2 pictures (rest of it was pictures with my wife inside of the canyon). As usual I spent about 1.5 hours inside and most of this time I was just looking around absolutely forgetting about my camera. Finally I saw this picture. After that because of the complexity and the very high contrast of the scene (very dark lighting at the bottom of the canyon and bright sky above it) there was only one way to get a picture with everything (walls and the sky) and that required using bracketing. So I literally laid down on the sand, set up the tripod above myself, pointed the camera straight up and did 4 sets of 5 shots with different exposure settings (20 shots with 1.5 exposure steps). From those shots I used 5 to produce the final image. In general I dont like regular HDR pictures because most of them have a cartoonish look. For this reason I dont use any special software like Fotomatix. So in cases when I need to extend a dynamic range I use so-called 32-bit HDR technique. In a few words, I created 32-bit HDR image in Photoshop, saved it as 32-bit TIFF image, opened this image in Adobe Lightroom and post-processed this image as usual. If somebody wants to know more about this processing then they can try to search 32 bit HDR on YouTube and you can find hundreds of how-to videos. So maybe as for today this picture is my best picture overall. This Image was the #1 picture for more than 7 hours on 500px and it was published last month in Digital Photography Magazine (United Kingdom) So the settings of the main shot are: Model: Canon EOS 6D Focal Length: 16.0 mm F-Number: F/13 Exposure Time: 0.02 sec. 1/50 ISO Speed: 100
