On this Tuesday morn, a delightful early September morn, during an early run, sultry warmth of the rising sun and the humid moistness of the dawn air was reminiscent of a morning in mid-July at the height of summer but, as the miles passed, and I journeyed along a rustic bike path and through wetlands, the gradual yellowing of the green leaves, accentuated, on this morn, by the brilliant and radiant sunshine, along with a smattering of brown leaves blanketing the earth and the occasional fallen leaves slowly drifting through the warm air towards the earth, symbolized the natural worlds gradual but inevitable passage from summer to autumn. And, in the low lying wetlands, where the radiant and brilliant golden sunshine glimmered magically off the marsh waters even as a few wisps and swirls of white clouds lazily drift across the blue sky in the heavens above, the occasional blood red or burnt orange leave, nestled among green and yellowing leaves on the trees, bushes, and underbrush, foreshadowed, despite this mornings summery warmth, the fiery and vibrant explosion of red, orange, burgundy, gold and yellow foliage that is October in New England. Finally, towards the end of my run, in another stretch of wetlands, as the suns warmth gently caressed my skin and my spirit and as the fresh sunlight glistened off the leafy tree tops, a few white butterflies, symbols of the ethereal beauty of summer were playfully fluttering around a bush that, though until s few days ago, was a deep and verdant green, is now, in another hint of falls inevitable approach, adorned with bright yellow leaves, and the sublimely beautiful tableau of the butterflies fluttering about in the warm sunshine around a yellowing bush captured the timeless yet fleeting beauty of early September.
