On this WORLD WATERV DAY day I would like to share some of my observation on how water is being wasted by us on a daily basis. 1.During the course of my morning walk, I have observed water overflowing from the overhead tank of many apartments and even independent houses and is left un noticed for several minutes. on few occasion I had called upon the security/owner of the house and informed them about the situation. I feel installation of water level controller should be made mandatory by the respective Government. 2. I have seen at airports, hotels, even house and many other public places while brushing their teeth people keep the tap continuously open. Even I used to do the same. I feel this can be corrected and use the water only for washing after brushing the teeth. 3. Maid servants, while washing dishes and clothes dont care for water and waste a lot and this un-noticed in almost very house. They can be told about the importance of water and they may be monitored during their work. 4.I have seen people washing their car using pipes with continuous flow of water from the taps In this process they do not have an estimate of the amount of water consumed. It is better to collect water in buckets and use accordingly. 5. The same is applicable when we use showers for bath. we do not have an idea of the amount of water consumed. In order to save, it is better to use bucket and mug for taking bath. 6. Leakages are observed at several public places like railway station, urinals, wash basins etc.. This may be brought to the notice of the concerned authority for corrective action. The above are only a few observations/suggestions. My dear friends, in case you have any suggestions/observations, please let us interact and share our ideas in order to save this depleting resource. Interacting and sharing with the public about where their water goes, and how their consumer choices affect the overall water situation may play a part in reducing the use and waste of water.
