On this date, July 3, 1983, The Elvis Brothers traveled from St. Louis to Memphis, TN to play a show at a club called, Confettis. I remember the club being too clean for rock and roll and kind of a disco type vibe. We actually did have a fw people there who had seen us at the Cotton Carnival, May 28th, opening for Cheap Trick. So, that was good planning on our managers part. He tried to do that a lot, having us open for somebody big and then a follow up headlining gig in a club on our own a month or so later. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it surprisingly, didnt. Madison, WI comes to mind, where we always did okay but never really broke that town in a big way with headlining gigs at clubs. We would always kill at the opening slots, get great reviews, and then headline a club to an okay crowd. Never figured that one out. Anyway, we had a few people come to this gig that had seen us, which was nice but overall, the club was kind of weird (not rock and roll) and most of the crowd seemed like they were thrown for a loop. Maybe the name Elvis Brothers, soured them, being in Memphis. Maybe they were Elvisd out and didnt care to check out another Elvis type band. That was my guess. The gig book says we had a good gig and played an encore, so there ya go. Im just going by memory that it wasnt a balls out fun rock gig. Tomorrow, we are off except for the 7 hour drive home from Memphis to Champaign. I still can rattle off how many hours it takes to get from Champaign to anywhere in the Midwest and beyond. We did it for many years. Have a happy 4th of July and The Elvis Brothers have a gig on July 5th. BAMMM!!!
