On this day, in 1929 a king was born. Today let us celebrate the life and legacy of MICHAEL Luther King, Jr. Let us galvanize our forces and fight tirelessly for social justice, racial equality and economic opportunity. In the past we have waited for a leader to be chosen, either for us or by us. I can state with any more urgency that if change is happen, WE must take action, we must act now. We can no longer sit idly by the wayside as our freedoms erodes and our dreams evaporate. This means that we must vote, we must protest but understand that no significant change will ever take place casually...there must be sacrifice !!! Unfortunately, there may even be bloodshed and the loss of life. We must tally the lost lives of our younger brothers like Mike Brown, Tamir Rice, TrayvonMartin and count them with the legions of children we lost like Yusef Hawkins , Medgar Evers and Emmit Till. Let their lives be a clarion call for change. Dont let their blood that was shed be in vain. We need to transform this moment into a movement, we must insist that our lives matter ....our lives indeed do matter. My friends and family I beseech you...stand up for justice, push for change, demand that those who hide behind the veil of bureaucracy be exposed and be held accountable for their crimes against humanity. This movement that I speak of , is not and will never be convenient...it will not fit in 140 characters or a short vimeo clip. We must make the perpetrators and promoters of injustice and oppression uncomfortable. We must eradicate all their vestiges of power and prohibit them from finding a safe haven. I know this sounds iconoclastic and uncharacteristically violent and confrontational for me but I am tired and frustrated with systems that have robbed our children of hope. I am bothered by the the complacency and the notion that we should be happy that things are changing slowly for us as a people. The truth is time is a variable that we must take into consideration...5 minutes is not a long time if you are waiting for a bus or a train... 5 minutes seems like a lifetime if you are being suffocated. Brothers and sisters, please hear my plea I cant breathe...I cant breathe
