On this day in 1975, President Gerald Ford was among the more than 25,000 people who gathered on York Field in front of Building 4 to celebrate the Armys 200th birthday. The event included a Glorious Heritage Pageant and demonstration by the Ranger Department, Airborne-Airmobility Department, Military Dog Detachment, the Silver Eagles of Fort Rucker and the Golden Knights of Fort Bragg. While addressing the crowd, Ford referred to The Infantryman Statue in front of Building 4, then Infantry Hall (Now McGinnis-Wickam Hall), as the Follow Me Statue. And it stuck! From there forward, the statue has been known as The Follow Me Statue.
