On this day in.... 1999: Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Vince McMahon, WWF St. Valentines Day Massacre on February 14th, 1999. In the late 90s, Stone Cold Steve Austin didnt fit the bill for what Vince McMahon wanted in a WWF Champion. It got to the point where Mr. McMahon would do whatever it took to help get the title from Austin, and keep it away too. This included having the Corporate Stooges as guest referees, pitting Austin against Kane and The Undertaker, or even helping The Rock out. McMahon even went as far as putting Austin at #1 in the 1999 Royal Rumble, and entering himself at #30 just incase Austin managed to make it all the way (this was overruled by Commissioner Shawn Michaels, who put McMahon at #2). With a little help from the Corporation, most notably The Rock, McMahon not only eliminated Austin, but won the Royal Rumble match! With The Rock holding the WWF Title, Mr. McMahon wanted to vacate the Wrestlemania title shot he won, until realising if he did that, it would go to the runner up of the Royal Rumble: Stone Cold! Austin goad McMahon, wanting the title shot he felt he deserved, as well as wanting to get his hands on the boss. When the match was agreed, Austin threw in 1 last stipulation: Knowing how McMahon had been to him recently, Austin wanted the match inside a Steel Cage so no would could interfere.... Which brings us to WWF St. Valentines Day Massacre on February 14th 1999, from the Pyramid in Memphis, Tennessee, as Stone Cold Steve Austin faces Vince McMahon inside a steel cage! #WWF #WWE - dailymotion/video/x18tygk_in-your-house-27-st-valentines-day-massacre-stone-cold-steve-austin-vs-mr-mcmahon-steel-cage-match-w_sport
