On this day in.... 2003: Chris Jericho vs Rob Van Dam (c) for the WWE Intercontinental Championship, WWE Raw on October 27th, 2003. When Chris Jericho and Christian had problems with co-Raw General Manager, Stone Cold Steve Austin, it ended up costing Christian the WWE Intercontinental Championship, thanks to Austin booking Christian to defend the title in a Ladder Match with Rob Van Dam. So, when Survivor Series saw the 2 Co-Raw GMs picking teams to represent them, it was obvious Jericho and Christian would side with Eric Bischoff...a move they felt could help them out. Jericho and Christian would continue whining about the unfair treatment they had received from Austin, and even extended it to what had happened for other members of the roster, pointing out that Shane McMahon following Austins crazy regime was part of the reason Kane was taken away in an ambulance, and Test got injured. When Shane, Lance Storm, RVD or the Dudleyz stood up for Austin, it would always lead to a tag or multi-man match featuring other members of Bischoffs Survivor Series team. One match up would see Jericho team with Scott Steiner, to take on Storm and RVD, and while the refs back was turned, Steiner used a chair on RVD, allowing Jericho to pick up the win. They would follow this up a week later, by setting a trap to take out a member of Austins team, the 5-time WCW Champion, Booker T. Booker was a guest on Jerichos Highlight Reel, and an unwelcome one at that. After making fun of his guest, Jericho revealed it was a set up, as Steiner and Christian came to the ring, to make it a 3-on-1 assault. A steel cage was lowering down, and just before it covered the ring, RVD slid in to help Booker fend off the trio. Due to the plan being ruined, Jericho requested a title match with RVD, which Bischoff granted. Therfore, WWE Raw on October 27th, 2003 at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, North Carolina would see Chris Jericho challenge Rob Van Dam for the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
