On this day the 15th of August 2013, a strong feeling gripped me. I thought I must express it. I have a few simple aspirations just like any other people on this earth. Over the years I have seen changes that by no means I could have predicted ten years ago. However, with the little education and three decades of experience living on this planet, I think I’m now able to predict a few things which I couldn’t do earlier. We have come a long way since our ancestors were either farmers or hunters at the beginning of the age. It’s an amazing experience to learn the way we have evolved, and so have our culture, religion, politics and education. Or, I should say these have been the basis of our evolution. It’s interesting to learn as to how different group of people perceive these subjects. For our very own well being, it’s highly important for our society to have a fair understanding of culture, religion, politics and education which is often being grossly misconstrued. Let us first discuss education, one of my favorite subjects. Is our current system of education meeting the following needs? 1. Are we able to develop enough skilled workforces to match the current job requirements worldwide? Let this question be answered by HR groups and, leaders who steer major corporations. Though, the answer is obvious. 2. Can anybody afford quality education? The obvious answer is ‘No’. Then how can it be a right, if it’s not practical to afford quality education. Teaching someone that is not worth is as good as not teaching him anything. What goodness does it bring wasting someone’s 10 to 13 years in education if it does not help them acquire the necessary skills matching the requirement of the current workforce? 3. Government statics do most of the talking. Pull up the records from the employment exchange; you’ll be shocked and surprised with the number of unemployment. Not all of these youths are necessarily unemployed, they have no option but to become a part of the unorganized workforce where they live hand to mouth, compromising their standard of living. No health insurance, no financial security and lack of quality medical treatment are some of the common issues. So let’s talk about the solution. If we work together towards devising means to create the infrastructure and adopt cost effective strategies to develop our people in various fields, such as, agriculture, engineering, medicine, and all other areas that would steer economic well being than, we have already succeeded half way in our battle. The key is to make quality education more affordable than ever. Each individual has to be involved in this process, including business organizations, educational and training institutions and our Government, too. I have already been pushing the idea of raising the budget on Research and Development and easy and affordable technology transfer at grass root levels. This would encourage a new breed of young adventurous entrepreneurs. As far as culture, religion and politics are concerned we need to change our approach towards how we have introduced these subjects in our academia. We need to have a better and fair understanding of political affairs at a young age. The approach of academia in this regard must be neutral. All we need is pure facts. The student must be well informed about the religions and cultures of the world, nothing but pure facts. May this season refresh you all. Wishing you Peace, Well being and Prosperity……Noel
