On this night in 1978, I was sitting at home in St. Joe, 10 days - TopicsExpress

On this night in 1978, I was sitting at home in St. Joe, 10 days past my due date, and convinced by then that the doctor had been wrong the whole time; I wasnt pregnant, I simply had some sort of growth. David was at work at Peachtree Doors. At around 11, I noticed a little spotting and called him at work. He ran in to his supervisor and told him frantically that he needed to leave immediately because I was bleeding (the only drama of the evening!). Because we only had one car, I drove to pick him up at work - over the bumpiest road in St. Joe. It was in an industrial area and the big trucks had really done some damage. We decided to go to the hospital and were really surprised when they decided to keep me. All through my pregnancy, I hadnt worried at all about the birth; I was terrified of the prep. I was so excited that even though it was a former high school classmate who came in to do the deed, I hardly thought about it. Davids sister, Carol, came to keep us company and there we sat all night. Early in the morning, they broke my water, and shortly after 9, we had our beautiful baby girl, Jennie Tanaya - the first happiest day of my life. No horrible turtleneck and sweater picture this year. Ive realized I have so few good pictures of the girls during their teenage years! We have school pictures (yuck) and studio pictures, but not a lot of regular pics. Its kind of funny that you think youll have plenty of time to take good pictures. Not always. (If any of Jennies friends have pictures of her youd be willing to share with us, wed appreciate it.) And so for Jennie on her birthday tomorrow, But I must admit I miss you quite terribly. The world is too quiet without you nearby. Lemony Snicket Yesterday, today, and tomorrow. I will love her and miss her for the rest of my life.
