On too much news from a complex world- the balance between being - TopicsExpress

On too much news from a complex world- the balance between being responsibly informed, having a voice, and maintaining health. Many of us want to know what is happening, but notice the overload of exposure to so much more information each year. We notice a resulting emotional and physiological reactivity, which at times harms us, and can leave us with a conundrum . How can we be aware, and have our voice heard, and yet buffer ourselves from this overload of distress ?? Im sorry so much is happening to so many, but some of us do not adapt and become inured. Instead, we remain sensitive and responsive , and then the continual exposure to learning what is happening in the world becomes just one more harm. In the past, for myself, being politically active, or having a job that makes a difference in the world, was a way of tolerating the news. Because you know that in some way, you are being in the world, making your small difference. Possibly the gift of Jon Stewart addresses this problem. He can present enraging, full of injustice or nonsensical news, deliver it with panache and a delicious delivery, and, ta da, you know , you laugh, and there are others with you . Kinda perfect.
