Once a person grows up and has a fully functioning mind, is it - TopicsExpress

Once a person grows up and has a fully functioning mind, is it still their fault if they continue to believe in make believe? Many of us, during the course of the day, find any number of things or ideas that we agree or disagree with. Our reactions, or lack of reactions, are what I find interesting. Where does this frustration lie? Is it because the other person is not fully comprehending the subject matter? Or because they do not agree with you? Or are they insulted? These are very different things to keep in mind what have discussions with others. Opinions may vary, but the information that forms these opinions, is what is important and of course, opinions are like assholes, everybody has one. Although, I think some need to be examined more closely. In discussions ( sometimes arguments ) with religious people, these reactions seem very angry and personal. As if you are attacking them. Whether you are or not, doesnt matter. For some, it is taken that way. Personally, I believe the rabbit hole runs deep into ones personality or ID ( Sigmund Freud en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Id,_ego_and_super-ego ) So when denying their religion, or their god, you are actually denying them and who they are. I am not going to sit here and make excuses for peoples behavior and how they accept information or opinions, I am just saying I am aware of it. When is comes to discussing what a person believes in, it can be frustrating for both sides of the conversation, and blaming one another for being stupid is counter productive, regardless if it makes you feel better saying it. Being a former slave to religion, I know all to well how deep indoctrination runs and how strong its grip is on ones throat of personal reality. Regardless of having this understanding, it does not change my personal views that religion continues to poison everything it touches. I have come to many different conclusions over the past 10 years or so and feel free to disagree with me but at the end of the day, to blame religious people for being religious is an unproductive and tiresome endeavor. It seems that rational decision making has flown out the window and any argument can be whisked away with a gentle breeze of because god did it. Why do they follow so blindly? well, Its partly not their fault. They were never taught how to evaluate and decipher information to make rational decisions. This needs to be learned. It is the same as learning how to drive a car. It just doesnt happen on its own, someone needs to show you how do it. It is also a trust issue. All babies are born atheists. They simply have no knowledge of anything and are completely helpless without the parents or a guardian to raise them. They learn a great deal of information from them, including whatever they are told. To speak, brush teeth, poop, play, make friends, learn about communication, making friends, Santa, easter bunny, tooth fairy, boogie man, allah, god, jesus, ect These empty sponge brains soak up everything and it becomes a part of who they are, simply because of what they were told. If you were told, from the time you were an infant there was a giant ass in the sky watching over everything you do, and if you do bad things, you will be crapped on for all eternity, there is a good chance you might jump on the band wagon. My point here, is that sometimes, its like talking to the proverbial wall. These are of course, just my personal opinions and we all know personal opinions are always up for scrutiny but I will end with this thought. Once a person grows up and has a fully functioning mind, is it still their fault if they continue to believe in make believe? Thoughts?
