Once again, I am planning to head off to Ecuador. If things stay on course I will be there the last 10 days on November. In preparation, I am learning what I can about their system of higher education, which is going through a convulsive change as president Correa attempts to bring the system into the 21st century. In comparison with the higher educational system here in the USA, the Ecuadorean system is moving in the opposite direction - much more public spending, greater investment in teaching faculty and their professional development, increasing access for the poor.
