Once again social media is rife with self-serving, attention seeking, self promotion disguised as charity. It seems trends once started are impossible to stop, even when their main premise is unquestionably illogical. Undoubtedly awareness of some of the contributing factors of cancer is a worthy motivation; yet, the no make-up meme does nothing to achieve this goal, nor for that matter, does it support cancer research or better public health promotion. What it is, is masturbation; masturbation in the guise of a moral cause , like the priest zipping up his saliva moistened fly before stepping out to preach benefits of avoiding sin to his flock. What is done with the desire to demonstrate how caring and brave one is demeans not only the person themselves, but also the cause and the audience. This is being done out of joyful self-flattery, I care about this enough to take a picture of my uncamouflaged face and publish it to the world please stop it! If you really want to help study in a field which may help the prevention of cancer, donate money to a charity, or donate your organs (the sooner the better).
