Once in a while you get a piece of bad news that makes you think and chew on it a while. An old man that came in to get his propane filled was ran over last night in town. He told me he was a MP( military police) during Vietnam. He didnt have much money, his camper he lived in wasnt fit for a dog and his old truck broke down, so he had to walk from Wheatley to Carrollton and occasionally hitched a ride. He often came in asking if he could have a cup of coffee from walking in the cold. I didnt know him very well, other then when he came in. He talked about a wife that left him and turned his kids against him and how he wished he could have went back and done things differently. He talked about having no other family. Most would say he died with nothing, however I can testify against that. He always came in smiling and cutting up, always seemed to be in a pleasant mood. Some people live there life with wealth and dont smile often, or even laugh. If he left nothing else, he sure left the impression on me about how to live. Dont take people you care about for granted, let them know, no matter how often you see them and dont be so worried about making s dollar that you forget to laugh and enjoy life. Might have been an old man with not many possessions but that old man left some kindness and inspiration to a few.
