Once, long, long ago I worked at a great company. For the most part I really loved the hard working people I managed. I can remember a long trip to Germany where I and Lester Smith had long flights. In those days, the upper management wanted its employees to make their own travel arrangements. Heaven forbid that we should use our secretaries to do the work. As a midlevel manager I got to fly business class and Lester was supposed to fly coach. I didnt like the idea that I had it better than Lester. So I made his flight arrangements and we both flew business class. Now I knew I would get yelled at for this error on my part, but I didnt care. Lester and I had comfortable flights there and back. I got hauled on the carpet and yelled at. I made nice but knew I would do the exact same thing again. Lucky for me and the company I left soon after. There is something to be said for being even handed with the people you have to work with every day. Besides Lester and most of the other people I worked with deserved good treatment.
