Once upon a time, a lady went for a job interview. There sat 2 interviewers in the room. Interviewer: Can you remove yr headscarf if you were selected to work here? Or maybe upon reaching office, you can remove yr scarf and put them back once you finish yr work? (Wow! Them giving me suggestion) Lady: Whats the issue? This is my daily dressing and im sure it will not affect the job im applying. Interviewer: We are worried you might scare our customers away. Lady: (with a cheeky smile) Well, do i look so scary to you? I could smile...(Smiling all the way) Interviewer: Your job require you to answer phone calls. You might not be able to hear well with the scarf on.. Lady: (looking amused) By answering yr questions, doesnt that means i could hear you well.. (their looks turns red, paiseh look you know. Then they talk in mandarin infront of the lady, asking each other should they take her in or not and all their worries abt her in headscarf as they have not recruit a muslim staff before). Upon hearing their conversation, that lady interrupt them.. Lady: Well, if you have so much worries about me wearing my headscarf, i think its ok. Ill look for other jobs that can accept me. I dont see any reason that dont fit the job. It is me doing the job and not my scarf... Interviewers: (Looking shocked at her reply)...Wah! You can understand mandarin ah??? Can you speak mandarin? Lady: Yes i could. Ive wrote on my application form. Interviewer: You wait ah, i asked the CEO first if he wants to see you. (They quickly browse thru my application form and saw at the dialect spoken details..she had indicate her spoken language. Paiseh looked again) CEO: (Converse in mandarin) I heard you can speak Mandarin? Can i test you? I speak, you write ok. (After all that, he is convince and immediately offer her the position. The moral of the story, do not judge a book by its cover. :)
