Once upon a time, in a time not so long ago, I used to associate - TopicsExpress

Once upon a time, in a time not so long ago, I used to associate the sound of an acoustic guitar with being at home on Wild Oak Lane. Whether it was laying on the strange old yellow carpet in the living room, sitting around the kitchen table or having a bonfire outside. It didnt matter where, but my father always had his trusty six-string acoustic Gibson close at hand. It was a key mainstay of the household. One of my Dads favorite and with time mastered choices of music to cover, was the folk rock sounds of the great Neil Young. Endlessly rewinding cassette tapes and playing them back time and time again, (Until every note was mastered, or his children driven from the house) wasnt just a hobby with my dad, it was an obsession. And it paid off. Many people I think would never know the difference between the original and what was coming out of that old, storied sunburst six-string. The music in that house though, it became a part of us all. I used to love this particular song, simply because it was so familiar and my dad loved to play. I used to associate it with him and home, and in some ways I still do. But for me its not the chords and notes that have changed, its the meaning of the lyrics. Now I hear this song and think of my relationship with my dad. How we are so much alike, now that Im older the lyrics mean something different, and how despite our differences we shared the same attitudes, beliefs and morals. I share this with you all as tribute to the late and great Charles R. Wood on the sixth year since he passed, as a celebration of his life and loves.
