One Job, Joseph. You had one job. Get a room. A room for the Woman carrying My child. My gift to the world. They are going to remember Him forever. Forever. That’s a long time, Joseph. A very long time. A really, really long time. Forever. That is how long people will remember that you had one job. Get a room. Didn’t have to be fancy. Just had to be a room. For the Woman carrying MY Son. The place where His life in the flesh would begin. One Job. You let her ride the donkey. That’s good. Considering she was nine months pregnant, did you really have a choice? Really? No. I didn’t think so. So, no points there. So, one job. Nope. Even with a very obviously pregnant and road weary Woman about to give birth in a strange town, you couldn’t convince someone to let her have a bed? No future in sales for you, Joseph. None, Nada. Ziltch. You couldn’t sell water to someone on fire, could you? I gave you one job and lots of chances to shine. One job. No future in sales for you. Don’t worry too much. After all, I am a forgiving God. They will make little statues of you and put you right there in the manger scenes they box up most of the time and then put off to the side because the tree needs so much room. They will keep you even when your hand is missing, the paint chips, and “wasn’t there more sheep or something?”. There you will be. Forever. Wrapped in everything from bubble wrap to newspaper and anything imaginable. The Bible stories will move on. You will be the most invisible key player in the entire saga, New and Old Testaments. Center stage on one of the most important days of the year and then, “Hey, what ever happened to Joseph?” No death. No funeral. They will name schools, hospitals, and even baby aspirin after you. (Even I like the irony of that one!). But you will be gone faster than the paycheck just before Christmas. Poof! Wow, where did that go? Was it ever really here? One job, Joseph. One single job. Merry Christmas. Jesus loves you.
