Canadian actor and playwright Charles Ross, who wowed Walton Arts Center audiences with his One Man Star Wars Trilogy, is back with One Man Lord of the Rings. Ross’ solo show is an hour-long recreation of the entire Lord of the Rings series. Ross hurtles through the Tolkien trilogy – The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King – equipped with nothing but elbow pads and creativity. Ross captures every character, from Frodo to Aragorn to Gollum, at a hilariously kinetic speed. The show faithfully alludes to Peter Jackson’s film renditions with uncanny impersonations of Hugo Weaving’s Elrond, Orlando Bloom’s Legolas and Christopher Lee’s Saruman. The films’ language, performances, and sharp sound effects set the pace of the enactment. Breakneck-speed stage fights, vexing rescues and moments of breaching character to offer the audience satirical observations round out Ross’ ode to Middle-earth. “Its sheer physicality is impressive as hell. And should you happen to belong to that hopelessly nerdy subset of the population that can pick a Sindar elf out of a lineup of Noldor elves, it’s something else too: something meaningful. Something moving. Something…precious.” –Washington City Paper One Man Lord of the Rings is part of the Coca-Cola Night Out Series with media support provided by Fox 24. Tickets can be purchased by calling the box office at 479.443.5600 or by visiting waltonartscenter.org. For more information about One Man Lord of the Rings, visit onemanlotr.
