One can never underestimate the long term influence of a horse which wins a classic race- and by “classic” I would include- the Kentucky Derby & Preakness, the Belmont Stakes- The English & French Derby and their Guineas races as well as the St. Leger of England- and the Oaks of Ireland, France and England- so how many races are these- maybe11 races which I would say are breed shaping vehicles for great horses to step up and show their mettle- which brings me to the 2013 winner of the Prix de Diane or French Oaks, which was won in handy fashion by Treve- Built along the lines Euros most love, the bay miss is a French bred daughter of Motivator x Trevise x Anabaa- a pedigree which sports most of the familiar names we see in pedigrees of the 1st order- Lots of Northern Dancer crosses appear via Lyphard & Sadlers Wells and speedy Danzig- we find Never Bend, a reliable source of top class thru his notable son Riverman- also in is the highly high class Sharpen Up as well as Hail To Reason etc. this brings me to the notion of the 4 pillars of the modern thoroughbred; as we find Mr. Prospector and Northern Dancer & Never Bend and Hail To Reason comfortably placed within the five generations of Treve, winner of the 2013 French Oaks!- Fans with long memories will recollect Trillion, the 4th dam of Treve- Trillion, by Hail To Reason, was a big timer in Europe back in the mid ‘70’s- her dosage profile was a healthy >15-4-25-2-2 her DI :1.91 and old GSV figurine of :84.09!! brought her great victories in such fixtures as the Prix Dollar and Prix Foy- she was a champion on two continents and as a broodmare was seen by stallions>Riverman & Lyphard- she died in 1987 at age 13 (?) of complications giving birth- and it is a fine thing her presence is rekindled by the good works of Treve- Trillion, was the property of silver baron NB Hunt master of Empery if memory serves- NB Hunt and his brother Texan Lamar etc, once tried to corner the world’s silver market but fell a nose shy of that Kublai Khan undertaking- the figures for Treve, whose sire Motivator wears the Epsom Derby blue ribbon, are dosage>5-5-12-2-0 and a DI: 2.00 and a old GSV: 62.07- Treve was bred by Haras de Quesnay (?) which retained ownership-- here in the states this strand of family 4-N has provided Amorama, a daughter of Sri Pekan, who achieved G1 status on the west coast- this family further back was the root of “English Derby star Generous! And the legacy of stakes winners funneling thru the few foals of Trillion comes to a goodly sum- The 4-N family which has notched another classic win into its barnyard wall of fame- stems from bleeder Hermit’s daughter the most excellent St. Marguerite of 1879- she was the dam of Seabreeze and Roquebrune and Tredennis-etc. St. Marguerite, won the Guineas 1000 of 1872 and placed in the Oaks Stakes of that year- and a direct descendent of her was English Triple crown sensation Rock Sand, who alter sired Mahubah, dam of perhaps the greatest race horse the world has ever seen Man O’ War!! 4-N is also the well-spring of Gallant Fox, the US triple crown hero of 1930 -a runner of majestic proportions which included an “eye” which scared the bridles out of the mouths of his few rivals- Gallant Fox, had a brother Fighting Fox, who was an excellent handicap horse who ran on 3 legs and one which was twisted like a cyclone had worked upon it- yet he won the Grand Union- the Wood Memorial and the Carter Handicap during an illustrious career- also among the notables in this portion of the 4-N clan was St. Léger winner Talma, who was sired by the hero of Paris, world class Pharis, who never tasted defeat- With a magnificent pedigree sporting the 4 pillars of the modern breed and a exceptional 4th dam in Trillion, and a rock solid family tree; breeding Treve may result in a huge windfall for the lucky owners/breeders- the gentle reader may examine the five generations and beyond to get notions which suit their particulars- as for me I will note mightiest Secretariat, is positioned in generation 4 as sire to Secrettame, dam of Gone West, the latter sire to the dam of “Darby” hero Motivator, sire of the 2013 French Oaks winner Treve, of whom we speak- so if she were mine ( dream on H) I’d look to inculcate a bit more of Secretariat, into the projected foal- and the theory is as simple as putting salt upon an egg- Secretariat, was the greatest thoroughbred of the modern era and what roll of the dice is more appealing than hoping the numbers come out to a foal which might approach the great Meadow Stables hero (even 25% of him would be sensational I’d say!)- An interesting breeding proposal might be Orb x Treve x Motivator!! now Orb, like dear Animal Kingdom, has had a diminution of late but there is plenty of good in both stallions and we might as well include a test breeding to the 2011 Kentucky Derby winner. in this petit exploration of the French Oaks winner Treve- Firstly Orb x Treve- dosage 4-7-8-1-0 and Secretariat would appear 4x5 in this scenario- the DI: 3.00 and GSV (old) 55.64 are not earth moving- but crossing the family of Ruffian with that of Trillion seems well intentioned if nothing more- As for Animal Kingdom x Treve -this would include at least 3 crosses to popular and essential Lyphard, also the pedigree has a international look about it- although we would not receive the added cross to Secretariat- the breeder utilizing this idea would get crosses to vital Blushing Groom and the marathon capability of German superstar Acatenango- from the looks of it Animal Kingdom, would appear to have the makings of an outstanding “turf” stallion!! This regardless of his seeming aversion to the stuff at Royal Ascot -but that is horse racing, a place where what is green is really blue and vice versa! The dosage diagram for a Animal Kingdom x Treve foal would be >1-2-4-1-0 with an appealing DI: 1.67 and a old gsv numeric: 52.39- but this low valuation in terms of the George Smith Values (GSV) is derived because his calculations were posited by figures available thru North American results primarily, if I understand its derivation correctly- )H)
