One day of dialysis training down and four to go…. Bob had his first peritoneal dialysis exchanges today and everything went well. They pulled an extra 1 ½ liters of fluid. Tests showed everything that was supposed to be low was high and everything that was supposed to be high was low. He still can’t eat and they have started him on a dialysis supplement 2 times a day at the tune of $5+ a can, but the vomiting is better. I’ve got to change my way of cooking, we meet with the nutritionist Wed. So many restrictions now. When we start the dialysis at home it will be fill the stomach and let it stay for four hours, then drain and fill the stomach again let that stay for four hours and drain again until we’ve completed four fills and drains. This will be done every day for a month and then hopefully he will go on the cycler at night for 10 hours. The next month should be very interesting. Today was very tiring, but I keep telling myself you can do this. Just got to pull on my big girl panties….lol We have been very blessed with good medical people. Patricia Neal during his stroke stay and the people at DaVita Dialysis have been great.
