One door closes and another opens. Just to give a brief update explaining some of the changes that have occurred in the last week. That way, when people ask I can just refer them to this post instead of explaining for the hundredth time. I am not going to China in August. In fact, it may be a long time until I return to the Middle Kingdom. My plans to go to China and teach a kindergarten class began 7 months ago interviewing for schools and recruiters. After returning from South America I began to review all my plans for China. Where Im going to live, banking, communication, etc. Well, to make a long story short, this review turned into a bit of a research project. Unforeseen issues arose. With the visa I have it is illegal to work and make money. Something many schools and recruiters selectively fail to mention in order to fill the demand for foreign teachers. So, what does it take to get the right visa? A bachelors and a couple years experience. There was a 90% chance that I could go to China, work, make money, and sneak back home before I had any legal issues, but this would require too much. Lying to the Chinese government, to my dear parents who allow me to venture out into the world. Risking deportation, jail time, fines...No, it was no longer an option. I would be an unqualified foreigner taking the job away from a competent Chinese graduate.Maybe my intense wanderlust had blinded me, I dont know. I heard recently that I am related to Sir Francis Drake,the second man to circumnavigate the globe. The sneaky back door to China has been closed. For these reasons, and many more it is closed, and will remain closed until I can justify it. But another door is now opened. I am enrolling in UWM for the second year, and am planning on attending for the full year knocking out as many credits as possible. The dreams of living in China went from 3 weeks from now to more like 3 years. So be it. If Im going to do something I might as well do it correctly. I might as well be good at it. in order to circumnavigate the globe, I will have to learn to sail first. Ok, so thats what is new. Tis but a spot of water on a raging fire. Peace
