One hour with Michael Eisner and Beau Willimon, House of Cards - TopicsExpress

One hour with Michael Eisner and Beau Willimon, House of Cards writer. A must see for fans. Also touches on the changed landscape of TV H of C was licensed through Netflix, which is not the same as produced. Also, it was unprecedented and hubristic to refuse a pilot. They wanted a guarantee of 1 season. It had happened before, but not for sometime. 100 mm for two years was a serious gamble. Fincher of course a monumental and proven talent, but not in TV. Willimon is from the Carolinas, though the family moved a good deal because his father was in the Navy 30 or so years. Went to Columbia and studied painting for 15 years before trying his hand at playwriting. Stints in Estonia, Vietnam, South Africa followed, with intermittent work on political campaigns. Hes 13 years sober. Has good things to say re British version (when Eisner says the American version is superior), but Willimon is right to say its apples and oranges. H of C, the original, predated the Tony Soprano and Walter White. Better hour than anything I could find the night I channel surfed for first time in years at Js.
