One hundred fifty years ago, on May 1, 1864, Virginia Davis Gray and the ladies of Princeton prepare to care for the wounded of Jenkins’ Ferry: May 1, 1864 — Sunday Such a day! We worked as if it was not Sunday, preparing cots, etc. for the wounded. Mr. Calhoun came up and passed the day. Capt. Von Tuhl and Maj. Dunlap came in wounded — not seriously. The Capt. ran about till he fainted. Prepared slippery elm in the evening. Johnie Beatie and Mr. W. Adams came to see us. We were glad to see Johnnie walking at night while we sat at table George Hall came — after him Maj. Boswell and Col. Gordon
