One last post and Im over it... This Ferguson debate has widely turned into personal attacks on groups of people, who are closely knitted by association. Be it the color of your skin, the religion you believe, a fraternity/sorority you join, a team, or a career you have chosen, you are bonded with others sharing a common vision, goal and purpose... the list is endless, but they are all groups that foster a brotherhood, or extended family, of people you identify with. Within each of these groups, there will always be the extremists, who cross lines that have been drawn in sand by the others who have the best intentions. But, the hardest part for the outsiders to remember, is not to judge the whole group as a reflection of one persons bad choice, or actions. To do so would only be unfair to the mass of upstanding people, who have done nothing wrong, and who may also disagree with the choices the said extremist made. The similarity in all of these groups, is that because youre invested and passionate about your affiliation to one or more of these brotherhoods, youre bound to take slandering comments, injustices, attacks, and ignorant remarks against your people very personal. And rightly so. It is natural to want to defend yourself, your beliefs and your loved ones. This alliance sometimes makes it very hard to keep an open mind to hear anything that is conflicting to your beliefs, knowledge and values, or threatens the safety and integrity of your extended family. But, the greatest part about this nation is that we are allowed to pursue a life as unique as we want it to be, answering to no one, except God on judgement day, to our own reflection in the mirror and to our loved ones. May we each find a way to respect each others affiliations, beliefs and values, without projecting the past wrong doings onto the present situations with stereotypes, assumptions, or misinformation.
