One of my all time favorite quotes is by Robert Byrne. The purpose of life is a life of purpose. I know you are all wondering where this random status is going? I work for AseraCare Hospice and Palliative Medicine Omaha. If I had a penny for every time someone asked me how I could possibly enjoy my job since all of my patients die, I would be living the life of luxury!!! My answer is simple, its a fact of life. The one thing in life we have no control over is death. Death doesnt discriminate, all of us, no matter what age, skin color, religion, etc die. We do not get to choose the time, day, how, or why. If we have a terminal illness, the one choice we do have is what type of death we want. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my job! I am so blessed and privileged to work with some of the most amazing people. They inspire me on a daily basis! What an honor and privilege it is to spend the last moments of a persons life with them and their loved ones! To make sure patients have a good death, provide pysch/social services for patients and families in preparation for death and bereavement support for 13 months or longer if needed to the patients family members after their passing. These are just a few benefits, there are so many more. Hospice is a benefit that is so underutilized!!! My AseraCare Omaha family, does what is right because it is the right thing to do day in and day out!!!! AseraCare implemented a program on something I am very passionate about and is very near and dear to my heart, veterans. The We Honor Vets program recognizes veterans on our services with a pinning ceremony and a thank you certificate for their sacrifice and service for our country. Sadly, as a country, we take terrible care of our vets!!!! NODA (no one dies alone) is just another example of why I am so proud to be a part of this organization. After 22 years in the nursing field, I have finally found my calling and my forever home. Which brings me back to the very beginning of this status, I can honestly say this is one of the many things in my life of purpose!
