One of my favorite Allman Brothers classics - Whipping Post - is a song that Ive heard covered many, many times. Sadly, many bass players that Ive heard trying to play it dont really know the brilliant bassline that Berry Oakley laid down. This is one song that is really strongly driven and supported by its bassline. Its a critical component. Without it, or if its changed too much - the song falls flat and often crashes and burns. So in hopes of never hearing it covered by guesswork again - I offer my bassist friends this little how-to video. This isnt dead-on, 100%, note-for-note Berry Oakley but its damn close - certainly close enough to drive the song the way it needs to be driven. Hope it helps!
