One of my favorite breakfast places, Ogies, in Salt Lake City. - TopicsExpress

One of my favorite breakfast places, Ogies, in Salt Lake City. They serve a delicious, giant breakfast egg burrito, smothered, for $3.99. And theyve got many menu items, so cheap, yet so filling. My co-workers and I sneak in any opportunity to eat there, and weve often wondered out loud how they can make any money. Well, the mystery deepens. Its a mighty cold day here today, and I sit down next to a homeless man at the bar, worshipping a cup of coffee. I figure itd be nice to order him a burrito, too. But when I ask the server whether the man has already ordered something, she casually remarks oh, all homeless eat here free when its cold out. Im impressed, and curious. How cold is too cold? How do you determine who is homeless, and who is not? Before the server can answer, another older man leans over my shoulder, and says Son, just the act of having to ask for a meal, costs a man much more than money. He smiles, gives my shoulder a quick squeeze, and then walks away. Seeing my confusion, the server explains that that was the owner. I look back to the owner, now having moved further down the restaurant, chatting in an obviously familiar manner with many of the days customers. And then it his me, like a ton of bricks to the gut...nearly everyone in here today, is homeless. I very nearly lost it, right there. Theres still people out there, trying, doing their part. Most of the time right under our noses.
