One of my lifelong friends, the former principal of Putnam City - TopicsExpress

One of my lifelong friends, the former principal of Putnam City West, Gary Webb has passed away. Its hard to put into words what a mans man he was. Almost like a bigger than life, John Wayne kind of man. His contagious smile and coaching ability for teachers and students at West always made him bigger than life. In high school, I once hit him with a cream pie in the face during a pep assembly and all he did was laugh. One time I got into a fight in the school cafeteria and Dean Wilde took me into Garys office and he said, Well I heard you won a fight today Kevin...that guy had it coming.. He was a powerful man, a strong administrator, a caring coach and an even more compassionate friend. His eyes would twinkle with all the beautiful teachers and his grip was a handshake you would not forget. He was a strong disciplinarian and yet, a gentle man with a great sense of humor. He gave me complete freedom for our student council officers and was as strong for the arts as sports. He loved his school, the faculty and us kids. He was all in all, one of the finest men in education. I will miss him, for the quiet moments I had with him. My favorite thing was going back to high school and surprising him. He would always smile really big and welcome me back to alma mater. I hope they name a HUGE building after him, because he was in a league of his own. Mr. Webb, I will miss you and thank you for being the best principal I ever knew. Thank you for the decades of service, for encouraging us to believe that we could do ANYTHING. You were...the man. I hope your heavenly home is ENORMOUS, because you deserve it. We will ALL miss you. Your friend, Kevin
