One of my role models since childhood, some people dont know that I used to write poetry RELIGIOUSLY. Maya inspired me in many of my poems. In fact, I won a nationwide contest in 6th grade for a poem that was completely inspired by Ms. Angelou, because she taught me how to be proud and embrace my African American beauty. One of my favorite books, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings was a part of a monologue I did in highschool that also earned me the privilege to see Kats on Broadway! Aside from Beyonce Knowles, Maya Angelou was the first Black woman to give me the feeling of complete inner beauty and femininity. Even now after death shes inspiring me. Ill start writing again, so many of us take our natural born talents for granted. She used hers to inspire a generation of young black girls and teach them self respect, self worth, and to embrace natural beauty during a time when we were lost. I will miss my muse. Rest assured, her beautiful soul is in Heaven.
