One of our little dolls turned 4! Birthday parties for individual children are pretty much unheard of in most Chinese orphanages, so we wanted to make Mias first birthday celebration with us, very special just as we have done for Kaylee. So when we learned her birthday was December 23rd, we all felt a little sad. We didnt want her birthday to blend in to the Christmas festivities. So right away we began to make plans to let her know how special she is! The night before, we set out all her presents (wrapped in pink of course) along with her pink decorated cake - of course (Mimi has never enjoyed decorating a cake as much as she has for her grand dolls). The next morning, her birthday morning (the day before Christmas Eve), we were all ready to surprise our little Mia! And she was indeed surprised and a little overwhelmed and a bit pensive...that is until time to open presents! Her older sister as Kaylee loves to describe herself, excitedly helped her open each one. Mias eyes were wide with excitement as she quietly would ooh and ahhhhh over each one. She remained extremely happy but somewhat pensive much of the day...taking it all in. A little after noon, we had birthday cake with our neighbors and then spent the late afternoon and evening at Silver Dollar City. Mia was in awe of all the lights, the massive tree and amazing electrical Christmas parade; and of course Kaylee was eloquently and dramatically narrating everything she was experiencing ! It was a wonderful day for our family, but best of all it was a very special day for a very very special little girl!
