One of the best trips of the season for me! Today is my birthday... I just left the half century mark in the rearview and am headed for my senior discount days! Scary! The folks were the finest imaginable on my charter today. They haled from Long Island, New York and they were not fishing savvy. No problem! They were up for adventure and I was the man for the job. You could tell they were a little unsure of what they had gotten into at first. Ole Capt. Jerry was running his mouth.. talking about the minutia of the fishing strategy and the spawning cycle of the fish and they were like.. Whattttttttt is this guy talking about.. But in the end we had a blast. The weather was unbelievably nice.. Light wind and sunshine. We spanked the fishes little behinds and there is no denying that. Big silvers were rolling in at every turn.. Now granted, it took me half the charter to get dialed in. The Silver salmon were not where I left them yesterday so I had to go in search of. I tried forty and fifty feet deep which had been working but it was a bust. Finally I trolled down the shoreline to a place the salmon go up a river to spawn.. It was game on then.. By the way.. They were really hitting right on the surface today.. It was fun.. Several times they grabbed the bait off the surface as I was reeling in. The cohos were hitting like Piranhas feeding on bloody meat! We had so much fun. I was telling stories and slamming down diet cokes. I was in my element for sure. Holding court and watching my guests have a good time. The sweet young lady of 11 named Lindsey turned out to really like fishing! I wish I had more time to fish with her. By the end of the day she was grabbing the rod and going for it on her own, if you know what I mean. All of the family was a joy to have and I guarantee I am going to try Normas recipe for poached salmon that she shared with me. We sent lots of salmon home to New York on the big bird and I know Norma will be pleasing her extended family with her good cooking. Gotta hit the hay, a senior citizen like me needs his rest.. Sleep well.. Jerry is down. Oh, I forgot to tell you.. The change I made in the lures worked out to me a huge success. Yesterday I was getting 2 out of 12 salmon to the net. It was really depressing.. I moved the hooks rearward by using beads as spacers. Walla !!!! Today it was hook 12 lose 2. No kidding! Dramatic.. We will see if it holds true again tomorrow or if it was a fluke.
