One of the biggest takeaways from an NKT® class is not to stretch - TopicsExpress

One of the biggest takeaways from an NKT® class is not to stretch or release a tight muscle unless you know why beforehand. A tight muscle only tells you about its tension, but not about its neurology. It could be either facilitated or inhibited. You would have to test it to determine that. And if it is inhibited, stretching/releasing it will only cause it to tighten further in reaction to making it feel less stable/safe in a stretched position. It is tight for a reason, and you have to figure that out first. The psoas is the classic example. It is so often very tight and inhibited. Stretching/releasing it can be the worst thing you can do. It will rebound against that to shorten up and protect itself. As we like to say, Dont poke for no reason.
