One of the first times I fell for her was when I was about 13 or 14. A short meeting one Monday night lead to many more regular occurrences. In fact, I had an excuse to visit every single Monday night around dinner time. She was on my way to my volunteer Youth In Government program at the Appleton YMCA. My mom knew it was serious and each week gave me a few bucks just so it wouldnt look weird for my to stop by. Religiously for months and months I was greeted with a smile and a familiar gesture and I loved every second of it. Eventually that became even more regular and next thing you know, I was with her almost every single night and I wasnt even 15. Not only was it illegal and past curfew for the most part but it was dangerous because I had to ride my bike home, alone. Many of my high school years and even some college breaks were still consumed by her and our time together taught me so much. It wasnt just about the hours as it was learning about people, having fun, satisfying wants, recognizing needs, having desires, and caring about others. Yet, where did I find myself almost every weekend even after working somewhere? With her. All of these years later and I still havent forgotten about the super late nights in downtown Appleton, the super early mornings and long days during a BOGO or the scar that can be found deep in my leg because I jammed a knife into it. Sure, there have been others that have tempted, teased, and even momentarily won me over. However, everyone should know my feelings and where I stand. Subway, youve been there for me for more than 20 years and even if I make an occasional stop at Quiznos or Jimmy Johns, dont think for one second that you wont always have my heart. I loved almost every minute working there whether I was 14, 18, or 22. It was always a great job (or second job or even third job at one point). Today, I tossed aside any real health benefits and went old school just for you. Cold Cut Combo, on white, with white American (because they only offered white American then), with yellow mustard and mayo, oil and vinegar, and some veggies. I almost reached over the counter and slapped the worker in disgust today as I even asked for the famous Subway U gouge and he said he didnt know what I was talking about. A little part of me died when he said that but today was still our day and you can never take that away from what weve shared. #PreJared #OldSchool #IHeartYou Also felt by The Dg Guy
