Built in 1886-89, designed by E Blacket son Cyril.He increased spire height from 150ft to-182ft to give it a special presence.On completion the tower had no equal in terms of delicate architecture.The landmark was the states tallest spire for over 100 years until surpassed in 2000 by the steel framed 75m spires of St Marys.
