One of the most concise articulation of Chinese Presidents vision for cooperation with India can be read in his statement, The combination of the worlds factory and the worlds back office will produce the most competitive production base and the most attractive consumer market, wrote Xi. The economy of the United States has suffered immensely by letting the manufacturing go offshore. The poor especially depend on physical labor. By outsourcing manufacturing the poor if the US were delegated to a life if misery while the Silicon Valley billionaires cornered the wealth generated through the digital revolution. India can Ill afford to push its labor engaged in manufacturing out of their source of livelihood. We need to be careful in accepting the arrangement suggested by President Xi. China has astutely cultivated its industrial manufacturing base and generated employment opportunities for its large population. The massive trade gap between the US and China is an indicator of effects of surrendering the hard goods manufacturing sector. India has another factor to consider. The worlds back office does not offer employment at a large scale to the human resource that is also divided in its labor practices along the caste lines. Allowing software industry to dominate national economy will create a reversal in social justice movement. The bottom line- let us not feed the stereotypes and surrender our manufacturing base.
