One of the most entertaining things to do when out looking for the wild ones is that once they have been spotted, is to play the hide and seek game. :) It works many, many times when trying to bring the horses closer in to photograph :) For example…..Bill and I had seen paint stallion Durango and his girls off in the distance. To start off, we walked a considerable ways towards them, and as we got closer, for just a flash moment, they saw us coming. Thats when we ditched into a thicket of cedar trees and disappeared. So now the game has been set up….. They know we are there, but just not sure where…… and their curiosity brings them in closer to us. Sitting motionless and peeking through the thick limbs, we watch them come in…. at a rather fast pace! We see their curious faces….ears alert….nostrils flared…..peering our direction into the thick brush looking for the slightest sign of movement. I well know the first click of the camera will give us away, so we sit there for a few moments, just watching them scan the hillside…..Where did they go? was written all over their faces! As I slowly position my camera through the trees and prepare to take my first shot, they see my movement. Sure enough, just as anticipated, the click of the camera stirred them up and they bolted…but not too far. In fact, they circled around and came right back in! They stayed close enough and were comfortable enough with our presence that they allowed us to hang with them for awhile and I was able to get a few more photos of them without having to hide in the trees…..and just look at palomino mare TJ….20 yrs. old and just as beautiful as ever! :) Photographed at The Little Book Cliffs, CO September, 2014 Copyright © Opus Moon A journey into the world of wild horses through music, songs, stories and pictures.
