One of the principles I am committed to is fiscal responsibility and ensuring that we hold the line on government spending. While South Dakota is in a good fiscal position, the federal government is unfortunately an entirely different story. Federal government spending must be reined in to ensure our children and grandchildren have opportunities for the future. I have heard from constituents across District 11 who want to find a solution to the problem of a runaway federal government. In looking at all the options, I believe the best way to accomplish this is by supporting an Article 5 Convention of the States that the US Constitution allows states to call. States around the country need to exercise their right to call for a One-State, One-vote, One-Issue Constitutional Amendment to balance the federal budget. There will be legislation during the 2015 legislative session that will support a Convention of the States. For this effort is to succeed, we need to plan early.
