One of the reasons why we ALWAYS take volunteer applicants on a jail tour is because some of people have little idea as to the type of folks they will be dealing with. Some applicants realize they cannot handle it after just ONE hour in the jail because they had assumed that jail is full of people who made mistakes. Jail is filled with people that willfully make bad decisions, and we have to encourage them to make the right ones. Jail ministry is the real deal; and if you are not, the inmates will have you for dinner! Its the same way with cops. Everybody didnt grow up in the projects and around violence on a daily basis. You have to develop thick skin just to be able to patrol some of these neighborhoods. So when I hear criminals cry foul I know the system is working.
