One of the strangest states that the Creator Placed in human - TopicsExpress

One of the strangest states that the Creator Placed in human nature is restlessness; at times we are dissatisfied and cannot settle; like someone suffocating in a prison cell, we long for somewhere bigger and wider than the world itself. Yet there are also times when we become totally immersed in the minutest, most trivial of things - we obsess over a memory, a moment in time past, and we settle there. Our hearts and minds, which at times are unable to make do with the vast world outside, settle for something tiny and inconsequential. And we wander about in that tiny circle, engrossed in a brief moment, a tiny, fleeting memory. Furthermore, the Creator Placed in our nature immaterial powers and subtle faculties which, even if they were to devour the whole world, would still not be satisfied. And yet at the same time our faculties cannot stand anything that threatens our sense of well-being, even if it is as tiny as a hair in ones eye. Such threats often weaken our powers, and at times extinguish them. Since this is the case, be careful and proceed with caution, for it is easy to sink. Be careful, and make sure you do not drown in a word, a seed, a flash, a sign, a mouthful, a kiss! Do not waste your extensive faculties, which are able to swallow the whole universes, on small, inconsequential and possibly fatal things! Ustad Bediuzzaman Said Nursi
